South Suburban Seeks Citizens to Participate in Community Workshops As part of District’s Strategic Action Plan

South Suburban Park and Recreation District is in the process of developing a Strategic Action Plan and is seeking feedback from customers and citizens as part of the process.  The Strategic Action Plan will serve as a road map for guiding District operations for the next three to five years.
South Suburban will hold a series of focus group meetings as well as two community workshops to gather opinions and perspectives concerning community issues and needs, and evaluate the District’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and barriers to progress.   Colorado based Jamie Sabbach, a consultant with years of experience in the parks and recreation industry, will conduct the meetings and workshops.
Community workshops are open to all members of the community, and will take place Mon., Sept. 10 and Tues., Sept. 11 from 7 – 8:15 pm at the South Metro Denver Chamber at The Streets at SouthGlenn, 2154 E. Commons Ave., Ste. 342, Centennial.  No reservations are needed; simply show up and participate.  Light snacks and beverages will be available.
Workshop attendees will receive a complimentary pass to a South Suburban facility in exchange for their participation.  In addition, all participants will be entered into a nightly drawing for a $50 gift certificate.
This is an opportunity to voice your opinions and help guide the District as it makes plans for the future.

South Suburban Recreation Centers feature Local Artists in September

South Suburban Parks and Recreation’s Buck, Goodson, and Lone Tree Recreation Centers are featuring temporary art exhibitions by local artists during the month of September.

The work of Asa Battles, Native American artist, is on exhibit September 1-27 at Goodson Recreation Center located at 6315 S. University Blvd., Centennial, 303-798-2476.  His use of graphite pencil as well as pen and ink for his illustrations of American Indian people, life-styles, and landscapes creates authenticity and realism to his subject matter.

The “Trish Sangelo Portrait Photography” exhibit has black and white, colored and hand-colored portraits of children, families and pets. Trish’s work is on display September 1-27 at Lone Tree Recreation Center, 10249 Ridgegate Circle, Lone Tree, 303-708-3500.

Maria Bouziane’s exhibit of paintings entitled “My Viewpoint” is seen September 1-27 at Douglas A. Buck Recreation Center, 2004 W. Powers Ave., Littleton, 303-797-8787. Her framed portraits and landscapes in oil and acrylic capture her subject matter beautifully and with great skill.

South Suburban’s Public Art Committee encourages Colorado artists to submit an application to temporarily display their artwork at various South Suburban recreation facilities. For a complete list of guidelines and an art exhibition application, please visit www.sspr.org or contact Vickie Willis at 303-483-7072.
